Child Reading in the Grass

Creating stories that spark a lifelong love of reading

ABOUT
Kelly-Anne Norman

The Storyteller

Kelly-Anne Norman writes books for children that speak to the heart.

Whether it’s a whimsical picture book for little listeners or a middle grade novel that dives deep into the challenges of growing up, her stories always carry meaning—and a message. She believes every child deserves to feel seen, heard and valued, and her writing reflects a strong commitment to wellbeing, empathy and emotional courage.

A school librarian by day and a storyteller by heart, Kelly-Anne is passionate about helping children discover their “home run” book—the one that speaks to their soul and starts a lifelong love of reading.

Her writing journey was shaped by the voices of iconic Australian authors like Jackie French and Melina Marchetta. She still remembers the moment she finished Looking for Alibrandi and knew she wanted to write books that could make readers feel that deeply, too.

Kelly-Anne is the author of two published picture books for children aged 3–6 and writes middle-grade fiction for readers aged 9–13, including her debut novel Understanding Molly. She has three additional picture books in the publishing pipeline and is currently immersed in writing her first junior chapter book mystery and a brand-new picture book.

Her stories often explore themes of identity, resilience and the quiet power of kindness. She always writes with a coffee in hand and meditation music in her ears—and if you ask her about her current favourite novel of all time, she’ll happily tell you (but be warned—it changes weekly!).

What readers are saying...

“Remembering Grandpa is an absolutely gorgeous book—both in its message and its illustrations. It’s arrived at just the right time for our family. Only the other day, my children shared how hard it is for them to remember the special moments they had with their Nan and Pop. Reading this book together opened up a gentle and meaningful conversation about those feelings. We spoke about how they can get teary when certain songs play or when they hear other people speak of their grandparents. It helped them understand that this sadness is a reflection of how deeply they were loved, and how strong their memories still are, even if they’re not always crystal clear. Thank you for creating something so tender and thoughtful."

Understanding Molly

Meet Molly Jenkins — nearly eleven, fiercely loyal and full of big feelings she doesn’t always understand.

Living with ADHD and Oppositional Defiant Disorder means life doesn’t always follow the rules — especially when school starts, friendships shift and the world feels like it’s closing in.

Told with honesty, humour and heart, ‘Understanding Molly’ offers an authentic and accessible window into neurodivergent experience. A powerful story for children aged 9–13, their families and educators, this is a book for anyone who’s ever felt misunderstood — and fought to be truly seen.

What readers are saying...

“Understanding Molly was a book that I didn't expect to move me so much. Being able to see Molly's perspective of everyday life, her struggles and how she feels. It gave me a deeper outlook of how a person with her disorders wants, like all of us, to be loved and understood. Kelly writes Molly's thoughts so well. She takes us on journey of Molly's highs and lows and, how her family is impacted too. I would recommend this book to understand the minds of people on the spectrum. Even those on the spectrum, especially kids, can use this as a learning tool and Molly's example of choosing to improve her circumstances.
Thank you Kelly for writing this book."
